The State of the Wii

If your like me, you probably heard the rumors that developers are starting to move away from developing new Wii games, exclusive or otherwise. Some of our favorite games such as No More Heroes will soon be "No More", switching loyalties to other "more popular consoles", such as the Xbox 360 and even the PS3. Again, if your like me, your probably not too surprised by this change in the wind, while the console sells, newer risk taking games from third party developers have done nothing be let down their publishers and developers time and time again. One could argue that Nintendo is facing an almost impossible chore of re-defining itself, post gamecube. Sadly I fear Nintendo is slowly losing this iteration of consoles, granted they have a massive head start, but that can only get you so far. So the question is, what can Nintendo do to improve it's beloved Wii console? This is the topic I really wanted to address, because I like usual have an opinion on almost anything. For starters I think the Wii needs to finally be able to play DVDs, if your like a lot of people you have probably already hacked your Wii to play DVDs, you know with a little effort on Nintendo's part any Wii console could play DVDs. Secondly, thank god that the Wii is finally getting Netflix, seems like every device in world can play Netflix, and it only helps to sell the wii as a cheap Netflix/gaming box. Thirdly, Nintendo should really take a cue from Xbox and seriously develop a comprehensive online service that rivals the Xbox, and if possible keep it free, that would just give them on more thing that the PS3 has really yet to develop. Lastly the wii needs more storage space, like 120gb storage level, Nintendo really needs to push its WiiWare and VC content, and a place to go with. Sure the 30gb high capacity SD cards are nice, but they do have limitations, a permanent integrated storage system would be nice.
